  • Privacy & Data Security

Robert is one of Minnesota’s top experts on privacy and data security issues. When in the Minnesota State Senate, he authored Minnesota's landmark Data Practices Act -- the first comprehensive data privacy legislation in the state. He also served with former California Congressman Barry Goldwater Jr., former New York Mayor Ed Koch and four others on the seven-member Federal Privacy Protection Study Commission. Today, privacy and data security is a fast-developing area of law and regulation, and Robert keeps his clients ahead of emerging issues and up-to-date on existing challenges and developments, advocating their position in the proper forum.

  • Product Regulation

The complexities of Minnesota's regulatory environment require companies to remain informed and engaged in the regulatory process. Robert's strategic legal counsel and direct advocacy ensure his clients' interests are represented before the state legislature, the governor, attorney general and state and local agencies, councils and boards. His track record includes measurable results in matters involving product specifications, disposal and taxation.

  • Insurance

Robert assists clients as they seek to offer new insurance products in Minnesota; want to ensure their products and practices are in compliance with regulatory requirements; or are in need of legal representation in the wake of enforcement actions.

  • Excise Taxes

In Minnesota, the current push to find new sources of revenue for state government is spurring discussion over new and expanded excise taxes. Robert advocates for clients concerned about excise taxes.

  • Regulations of Professions

Robert has represented professional associations and individuals in law, accounting and other licensed professions including insurance and real estate agents. He keeps his clients aware of professional requirements, pending changes, and other issues that concern them, advocates their positions, and handles enforcement actions on behalf of clients.

  • Transportation

Robert represents clients seeking increased state funding for transit and highways,  and approval and funding for specific projects. He advises them on available federal, state and local funding and on establishing  relationships with transportation agencies and officials. He helps develop legislative proposals and provides direct advocacy before state and local units of government.
